All Star Superman Coming to Blu-Ray/DVD in February

Warner Home Video has issued the first press release and artwork for All-Star Superman, the next animated feature from DC Entertainment.

SAVING THE WORLD … ONE LAST TIME

MAN OF STEEL FACES THE ULTIMATE SACRIFICE IN ALL-NEW DC UNIVERSE ANIMATED ORIGINAL MOVIE ALL-STAR SUPERMAN COMING FEB. 22, 2011 FROM WARNER HOME VIDEO

Grant Morrison’s beloved, Eisner Award-winning vision of Superman’s heroic final days on Earth is brought to exquisite animated life in All-Star Superman, the latest entry in the popular, ongoing series of DC Universe Animated Original Movies coming February 22, 2011 from Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation. The highly-anticipated, full-length film will be distributed by Warner Home Video as a Blu-Ray™ Combo Pack and 2-Disc Special Edition DVD for $24.98 (SRP), as well as single disc DVD for $19.98 (SRP). The film will also be available On Demand and for Download.

In All-Star Superman, the Man of Steel rescues an ill-fated mission to the Sun (sabotaged by Lex Luthor) and, in the process, is oversaturated by radiation – which accelerates his cell degeneration. Sensing even he will be unable to cheat death, Superman ventures into new realms – finally revealing his secret to Lois, confronting Lex Luthor’s perspective of humanity, and attempting to ensure Earth’s safety before his own impending end with one final, selfless act.

The celebrity-packed voice cast is headed by James Denton (Desperate Housewives) as Superman, Christina Hendricks (Mad Men) as Lois Lane, and Anthony LaPaglia (Without A Trace) as Lex Luthor. The stellar cast includes seven-time Emmy® Award winner Ed Asner (Up) as Perry White, Golden Globe® winner Frances Conroy (Six Feet Under) as Ma Kent, Matthew Gray Gubler (Criminal Minds) as Jimmy Olsen and Linda Cardellini (ER) as Nasty.

Arnold Vosloo (The Mummy), Catherine Cavadini (The Powerpuff Girls), Finola Hughes (General Hospital), Alexis Denisof (Angel), Obba Babatunde (That Thing You Do!), Michael Gough (Batman) and John DiMaggio (Futurama) round out the voice cast.

Based on the Eisner Award-winning DC Comics series/graphic novel of the same name by Grant Morrison with illustration by Frank Quitely, All-Star Superman is executive produced by animation guru Bruce Timm and directed by Sam Liu (Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths) from a script by acclaimed comics writer Dwayne McDuffie (Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths).

All-Star Superman 2-Disc Special Edition DVD features approximately 1 1/2 hours of exciting extra content, including:
  • Feature film (est. 75 min)

  • Sneak Peak at Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, the next DC Universe Animated Original Movie

  • Featurette: “Superman Now” – In a moment of inspiration, Grant Morrison was provided an opportunity to revamp the Man of Steel into something modern, something more relevant for today’s audience. This is the story of All-Star Superman – where it all started, and what it came to be

  • Two bonus episodes from animated television series handpicked by Bruce Timm

All-Star Superman Blu-Ray™ Combo Pack will include approximately 2 1/2 hours of intriguing bonus features, starting with all of the content available on the 2-Disc Special Edition DVD and adding:
  • Featurette: “Incubating the Idea” – A conversation with Grant Morrison

  • Audio Commentary: Bruce Timm and Grant Morrison

  • All-Star Superman Digital Comic Book

  • Standard and high definition versions of the feature film

  • Digital copy on disc of the feature film

“The All-Star Superman comic was the work of two immensely talented creators at the absolute top of their game,” said Geoff Johns, Chief Creative Officer, DC Entertainment. “Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely’s All-Star Superman is one of those modern classics, and I can’t wait to see it brought to life as an animated film.”

“Grant Morrison’s fascinating comic vision comprised all the aspects of a truly great film – action, drama, fantasy, romance, sacrifice and hope – and the animation team of Bruce Timm, Sam Liu and Dwayne McDuffie have passionately translated that vision into an enthralling movie experience no Superman fan can resist,” said Hersin Magante, WHV Marketing Director of Family and Animation. “As the next entry in the ongoing series of DC Universe Animated Original Movies, All-Star Superman stands as a shining example of the creative heights possible from the partnership of Warner Premiere, DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Home Video.”

The Night Santa Went Crazy

"The Night Santa Went Crazy" is an original song by "Weird Al" Yankovic. The darkly humorous Christmas song is performed as a style parody of "Black Gold" by Soul Asylum. It is the twelfth and final track on the album Bad Hair Day. This is my all time favorite christmas song. Check out this awesome fan made animated video for the song. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!!!!

Post Game TV Recap: STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS S3E10

Originally posted at Newsarama.com by Amy Ratcliffe

War costs money. Companies and people profit from war and therefore have a lot to lose if the war comes to an end. For some, greed outweighs the concern for peace. "Heroes on Both Sides," episode 10 of season 3 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, shows us just how true this can be.

The clones are falling at alarming rate. The Senate needs funds to create additional troopers. However, the war is slowly bankrupting the Republic. When Senator Organa points this out, Senator Dodd is quick to say that there is another way. Senator Saam proposed a bill to open new lines of credit after all. The problem is that bill would essentially deregulate the banks. Senator Amidala strongly opposes the bill and suggests negotiation with the Separatists. Another senator cries out, “You can't negotiate with those animals.” It's plain that extreme measures are needed to convince the Senate to even think about working towards peace.

The Senate puts off the debate until everyone has cooled down. Senators Dodd and Saam discuss the worth of the legislation with Banking Clan representative Nix Card. He is frustrated by Padmé's idealism. Though Card admits he would like to have her out of the way, he doesn't think assassination is the way. Besides, he thinks the Senate is unlikely to pass deregulation even without Padmé to push them towards peace. He suggests bringing the war to Coruscant's doorstep as a reminder of what the Separatists can do. Dodd points out that Coruscant hasn't been attacked in 1,000 years. Card sees this as a perfect opportunity since the planet has a false sense of security.

Meanwhile, Anakin and Ahsoka discuss the bill with Padmé. They watched the heated discussion that took place on the Senate floor. Padmé implores Anakin to talk to the Jedi Council, but he insists that it is not his place. Ahsoka thinks that it is, but she admits to being confused about the finer points of the politics of war. Padmé offers to teach her. While pacing in her office, she mentions that she wishes she could talk to Senator Bonteri with the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Ahsoka is shocked that Padmé could be friends with a Separatist. She sees the war as very black and white, and it doesn't occur to her that any Separatist could be anything but evil. For the sake of starting negotiations though, Ahsoka agrees to use her Jedi status to sneak Padmé to Raxus, the Separatist capital, to see her friend. It is illegal for Padmé to do so openly.

While they are in route to Raxus, Count Dooku finalizes the details of a nefarious plot with Card and General Grievous. Grievous has programmed infiltrator droids to send to Coruscant. They seem to be nothing but cleaning sweeper droids. We get a hint about their purpose when Grievous tells them that none will return from their mission. They arrive to Coruscant and are let off the transport ship with no difficulties.

Padmé and Ahsoka arrive to the sparkling Raxus. It looks just as prosperous as Coruscant. Upon meeting Padmé's former mentor, Mina Bonteri, Ahsoka is surprised at her appearance. The only Separatists she has met before this point have been in battle. It's really just been military officers. Bonteri is a normal looking woman. Ahsoka is still quick to judge and cast blame for the war at the Separatists. Then she talks to Bonteri's son, Lux. He seems to be approximately her age, and he doesn't come across as evil. Suddenly, the war becomes less black and white for her. While they are presumably discussing the war, Padmé talks to Mina about the need for the Separatists to offer an olive branch to the Republic. She asks Mina to bring up the possibility of negotiation to the Separatist Senate. She agrees to do so, and they toast to peace.

Mina's motion to start peace negotiations is passed with surprising support. Many of the Separatists seem tired of the war. Count Dooku plays along. He knows that an attack is in works to deter the Republic Senate from accepting the negotiation offer. Padmé and Ahsoka return to Coruscant, and Padmé rushes to tell Chancellor Palpatine the good news about the Separatist proposal for peace. As the Senate discusses the new development, Grievous activates the infiltrator droids. They have made their way to Coruscant's power generator controls. The bill to deregulate the banks is sure to be voted down, but the droids blow the generator while the Senators are entering their votes. Power is lost all over the city and so are lives. In light of the change, Palpatine passes the bill. If anything, the hate for the Separatists has been fueled.

Trivia & Notes

Ahsoka and Anakin have new looks in this episode. Ahsoka is considerably more grown up, and Anakin's look is closer to his appearance in Revenge of the Sith. The amount of time that has passed since we last saw Ahsoka is not specified.

The title of the episode refers to a line from Revenge of the Sith’s opening crawl: “War! The Republic is crumbling under attacks by the ruthless Sith Lord, Count Dooku. There are heroes on both sides. Evil is everywhere.”

Post Game TV Recap: STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS S3E9

Originally posted at Newsarama.com by Amy Ratcliffe

When you think about the Hutts, you may not think of love stories. You probably don't want to. Well, Hutts have feelings too. Episode 9 of season 3 of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Hunt for Ziro, weaves a Shakespearean-esque tale of escape, fighting, love, and betrayal. Not necessarily in that order.

Ziro the Hutt escaped his prison on Coruscant. Cad Bane and a wily crew of bounty hunters managed to set him free. Since the five great Hutt families ordered the prison release, Ziro is taken to Nal Hutta; he has left one prison for another. The cloudy, grimy planet is the home of the Hutts. Ziro faces the mobster-like leaders of the Hutts and tries to talk his way out of his new cell. Ziro has information about the council of the Hutts in a holo-diary. He's surprisingly smart enough to use this as a bargaining tool for his release.

Back on Coruscant, Obi-Wan Kenobi awaits the arrival of Quinlan Vos with obvious impatience. The Jedi Council has ordered them to work together to arrest Ziro the Hutt and Cad Bane. Vos makes a showy “landing” by jumping from his ship and teases Kenobi about temple life. He shows a little more snark than we're used to seeing from him in the Expanded Universe. Actually, he's not unlike Anakin. Maybe that's why he bugs Kenobi so much. They put their differences aside to travel to Nal Hutta to find Ziro and Cad Bane.

While they are flying, the Hutt council is entertained by a lounge act that is worthy of Las Vegas. Twi'lek dancers wearing a familiar metal bikini design and elaborate Hutt headdresses twirl about the floor. Sy Snootles makes a grand entrance and dazzles the audience with her crooning. Or maybe they are just dazzled by the disco lights, it's hard to say. Here's hoping that Star Wars: The Clone Wars has more musical numbers in store for us. After Snootles finishes her act, she takes a well deserved break and learns that Ziro is on Nal Hutta. She sashays to Ziro's cell and has the Gamorrean guards fighting each other in a contest of strength faster than you can say “I've got a bad feeling about this.” Why go to this effort to visit the prisoner? Love. Yes, Ziro had a girlfriend before his incarceration. Snootles still has deep feelings for him. Ziro uses this commitment to his advantage.

When Kenobi and Vos arrive, the council of the Hutts disavow any knowledge of Ziro's whereabouts. Luckily, Vos has the Force gift of psychometry – the ability to sense impressions about an object. He picks up a discarded cup and discerns that Ziro used it. He and Kenobi pretend they are satisfied by Gardulla the Hutt's lies and leave. Instead of returning to their ship, they find Ziro's prison cell. They are surprised to see that it is empty. Sy Snootles helped him escape on an airboat through the swamps of Nal Hutta. When the Hutts discover that Ziro is gone, they hire Cad Bane (he's been lurking around on the planet) to recapture him.

Vos and Kenobi are hot on Ziro's trail though they opt to run through the swamps instead of taking an speeder. Vos uses psychometry to track Ziro's escape path. Ziro heads to an unlikely destination; he runs to his dear mother. If you thought Jabba was a massive blob, Mama the Hutt will show you just what the word big means. Like most mothers would do, she yells at her son (in a very manly voice) about being gone and not sending word. She doesn't seem to think much of skinny legged Snootles either. The reason of the visit becomes clear. Ziro needs a favor. He asks to trade his swamp speeder for his mom's starship because he needs to go to Teth. Being the indulgent sort of mother, she agrees.

Cad Bane is also in pursuit by now. Since he also took a swamp speeder, he beats the Jedi to Mama the Hutt's house. When Vos and Kenobi get there she is fed up with being bothered. First her deadbeat son, then Cad Bane and Todo, and now them. The Jedi don't have to do much talking to get her to give up Ziro's destination. Ziro gets to Teth while they are pursuing. Once there, he takes Snootles to his papa's grave. The wrapped Hutt body is holding the holo-diary that has all the nefarious activities of the Hutt Council documented. Snootles is kind enough to retrieve it for Ziro. In a surprising turn, she pulls a gun on Ziro and states that she still has work to do. She kills Ziro without any emotion.

Bane gets to the scene first and is shocked to find Ziro already dead. As he puts it, “I just hate it when someone does my job.” While he is considering the loss of his bounty, the Jedi arrive. Their first thought upon discovering Ziro is that Bane was responsible. He points out that he wouldn't have made such a mess. Kenobi reminds him that he is still after him for holding the Senate hostage. Vos, Kenobi, and Bane throw down in the best fight of the season thus far. Vos and Kenobi put up a good fight, but Bane has enough gadgets to make Batman envious. Todo 360 helps a little, but we still have to admit that both Jedi lose against just one bounty hunter. We get to see Kenobi fight with two lightsabers, and Bane gets a hold of one for a few seconds. In the end though, despite their best efforts, Bane escapes.

Snootles delivers the holo-diary to Jabba the Hutt. Remember the moral of this episode, “Love comes in all shapes and sizes.” So does betrayal.

Trivia & Notes
Chronologically, Hunt for Ziro takes place right after the season 1 episode Hostage Crisis.

This is the first appearance of Quinlan Vos in Star Wars: The Clone Wars. If you haven't read any stories about him in the Expanded Universe, well, I recommend that you do so. Here's the Vos highlight reel: he found Aayla Secura and she later trained as his Padawan; he took an undercover assignment to spy on the Separatists and walked very close to the dark side; as shown in the episode, he has psychometric powers (the ability to draw memories by touching an object).

Sy Snootles has been hanging around with Jabba for a while. You probably remember her from Return of the Jedi; she was the lead singer for the Max Rebo band. She is voiced by Nika Futterman, also the voice of Asajj Ventress.

The song and dance number in this episode was inspired by the performance of Willie Scott in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

New Gameplay Details for BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY

A metric ton of new gameplay details for the highly anticipated Batman: Arkham City are now online to throw gasoline onto the flames of our excitement. Check out the new gameplay mechanics for the caped crusader below!

  • Batman will have special moves that can hit up to three enemies at once

  • He’ll also have new air attacks – one of them involves Bats hanging by a cord and jumping over the enemies and disarming them.

  • You can return to the starting point of the jump or carry on with the fight. There is also a diving swivel attack which hits two enemies at once.

  • Batman now has special combat moves (apparently called “Terminators”). One of them is called “Fallen” and is a combination of quick punches with a vertical kick that launches the enemy into the air giving The Dark Knight a second aerial shot.

  • There are also other attacks where Batman combines combos and equipment to take out foes.

  • Batman will be able to climb all objects including buildings and wires (he’ll be able to balance on them, something similar to what was seen in the Assassin’s Creed II).

  • You will also be able to slide underneath objects, cling to poles and rods, and perform gymnastic manoeuvres. You can slide down ramps to grab an enemy as well.

  • Batman now has a feature where he can dodge projectiles shot from firearms. It can also be used for normal attacks.

  • Batman will be able to grab enemies mid-flight.

  • When Batman is soaring, if you go toward a window he performs a motion diving with his feet to smash the window and execute a surprise attack.

  • Batman can now run and use gadgets at the same time. You can also run, jump and hit at the same time. Batarangs can be thrown even when Batman jumps into the air.

  • A new gadget upgrades Batman’s “leap” (Translation is confusing but it seems to suggest some sort of cape upgrade that expands into wings, can also “attack enemies”)

Batman: Arkham City is expected to hit the street sometime next Autumn.
