Henry Cavill has been Cast as SUPERMAN!

Warner Bros., Legendary Pictures and director Zack Snyder has found their new Superman! They've officially cast British actor Henry Cavill to take on the role of the Man of Steel.

Not much is known about this actor except that he just wrapped production on The Cold Light of Day and stars in the upcoming Tarsem Singh film Immortals, in which he plays the Greek warrior Theseus.

Here is what Snyder had to say about directing the movie and the casting of Henry as Superman:
In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen. I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.
I think choosing a relatively unknown actor to play Superman is a great idea. Now all they need to do is choose a script.

Targeted for release in December 2012, the new Superman movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

More Images of the Re-Designed Suit From the Set of Spider-Man

Several more images of the new Spider-Man costume have surfaced and I for one like the way it looks. The yet to be titled Spider-Man film stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen and Denis Leary. It is currently scheduled to hit 3D theaters July 3rd, 2012.

Who Marvel Should Have Killed Off…

For the three of you who will actually read this post, if you have any interest in the current Fantastic Four storyline, please wait to read this until after you read the current issue. As one of the people who had the ending spoiled for me on Tuesday, I don’t want to be the one who ruins it for someone else. And, to those of you who started tweeting & blogging who died on Tuesday, knowing full well that most of us couldn’t get our hands on a copy until Wednesday, I’d just like to say: FUCK YOU!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Fantastic Four was never a comic I read a lot as a kid. However, as a person who grew up on Spidey & Hulk comics, I was obviously aware of Marvel’s “first family”. Two of my favorite villains, Dr. Doom & Galactus, are spawned from their pages. However, I always thought the FF were lame and cheesy. It took the start of their current run Three, where it was announced at the beginning that one of the four would die, to actually get me to buy my first issue.

However, leading into the event, it was becoming evident who WASN’T going to die. The Thing is currently a New Avenger, so killing him off in one title would mean he’d have to die in the other (at least you’d home Marvel wouldn’t create such a huge continuity hole). Meanwhile, during the run, Mr. Fantastic popped in the Avengers title as a member of the Illuminati, which already featured a plot point where one of its members has died. So we’re left with the Storm siblings: Johnny & Susan.

While one is a seemingly ancillary character, the other is a linchpin of the series. Would Marvel take it safe or return to their “dropping Gwen Stacey from a bridge” roots? Indicative of current-gen Marvel, consisting of mostly tired and uninspiring stories, the poor Human Torch is no more. Even worse, Marvel didn’t even give Johnny a creative exit! It was an Aerosmith song away from the ending of Armageddon.

Had Marvel wanted to create a compelling storyline that would keep me interested in the Fantastic Four now that I know who dies, it was the Invisible Woman who should have perished. Really, what are the ramifications of losing Johnny? Sue mourns the loss of her brother, Thing and Spider-Man are bummed about losing their friend, Reed shows 10 minutes of concern before he’s distracted by his next project, and random hot New York chicks miss out on Johnny making “flame on this” jokes.

But imagine the lingering affect losing Susan would have merely on the other inhabitants of the Baxter Building’s penthouse:
  • Reed and the Kids: on the Slacker & the Man podcast last Father’s Day, Reed was ranked as one of the worst dad's in geekdom. He’s as much of an absent father as a guy who works from home can be. How would a guy whose brain runs a mile a second be able to slow down not only to cope with the loss of his wife but also help his two children mourn the death of their mother?

  • Johnny: as far as I remember, Johnny & Sue’s mother died when they were kids and their father went to jail for killing a guy in self-defense. So Sue has always had to act as a surrogate mother to Johnny. Heck, she’s the reason why he’s the Human Torch to begin with! How does Johnny react to losing pretty much the only family he’s ever known (well, other than his niece and nephew)?

  • Ben: his response would probably be the most heart-breaking. Odd, since he’s the only one who’s not related to Susan. However, as overly-protective and big-hearted as The Thing is, he would likely take Sue’s death as some sort of shortcoming on his part and his response could go in several directions.

And that would be the effect on just the other members of the Fantastic Four… How would the arrogant Namor react had he been responsible for the death of the woman he desired? Since Susan was generally the only one able to talk sense into Dr. Doom (she just did in a recent issue of the somewhat off-kilter retelling of the Infinity Gauntlet story)… How would his dealing with the Fantastic Four change? In addition, he was also known to have a thing for Sue. It’s easy to see a side story where, once he finds out Namor’s responsible for her death, Doom leads the armies of Latveria in an attack on Atlantis.

Instead, we lose the Human Torch (at least for the brief period of time they decide to keep him dead). At least his funeral issue should be more entertaining than that shitty one they did for Sentry last year. Meanwhile, Marvel’s a fan of doing the “What if?” one-shots, so I can see them doing one where Sue dies instead. But, by the time it’s published, no one will care and as a one-shot there wouldn’t be time to truly flesh-out how losing Susan affects the family, the team, and the Marvel Universe as a whole.

Note to Marvel: Other than Spider-Man, your storylines lately have been crap. I followed Dark Reign expecting for it to turn into some socio-political commentary on living in a police state led by an egomaniacal madmen. Instead, it was just a bad guys-playing-good guys story that you’ve done better in Thunderbolts. Siege, even at 4 issues, seemed long because it just didn’t seem to matter. Quit focusing on the Films Division and get back to your core. Maybe you wouldn’t have to fish for amateurs to write a screenplay for one of your secondary characters if you had decent plots in the comics to draw from.

First Official Promo Image for the New THUNDERCATS Animated Series

THUNDER....THUNNDER....THUNDERCATS HO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thundercats is set to premiere this year and here is the first image of what you can expect the animated series to look like!

According to the offical press realease from Warner Brothers Animation:
The new “ThunderCats” will appeal to viewers who have loved the characters all their lives as well as young newcomers to the franchise. A sweeping tale combining swords and science and boasting ferocious battles with the highest of stakes, the grand origin story of Prince Lion-O’s ascension to the throne – and of those who would thwart his destiny at any cost – takes on epic dimensions in this sharp new telling. As the forces of good and evil battle each other in the quest for the fabled Stones of Power, Lion-O and his champions learn valuable lessons of loyalty, honor and mortality in every episode.
I usually don't like it when they "reboot" cartoons from my childhood, but from what I have seen from other reports on the internet, this new incarnation will stay true to the original story and if they do that, I will definitely give it a watch. Also, I am interested to see how this turns out and also to see if they have eliminated and/or added any characters to the show. With that being said, they better have not gotten rid of Snarf!!!!

Anne Hathaway Is Catwoman! Tom Hardy Is Bane! The Dark Knight Rises!

Years of rumors and speculation have just been put to rest: The Dark Knight Rises has just named its villains! An announcement directly from Warner Bros. has revealed that Anne Hathaway will play the one and only Selina Kyle/Catwoman and that Tom Hardy will play Bane! The news should come as somewhat of a surprise to the fan community, who had been entertaining recent rumors that seemed to point to Catwoman not being in the film and Tom Hardy playing either Hugo Strange or Black Mask. The news of Hathaway's turn as Batman's feline-fetish-fancying nemesis/sometime hook-up also likely rules out the presence of the rumored inclusion of Talia al Ghul, who would have served in that same love/hate capacity. The bombshell announcement may not necessarily quell all the rumor mills entirely, but now, for the first time, we have a pretty good official picture as to what we can expect from what will likely be director Christopher Nolan's final film in the Batman series.

Hi-Res Photos of the Cast of Matthew Vaughn's X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

X-Men First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.

Directed by Matthew Vaughn, the film stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, Jones, Kevin Bacon, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Caleb Landry Jones, Lucas Till, Edi Gathegi, Jason Flemyng, Oliver Platt, Morgan Lily, Zoe Kravitz, Bill Bilner. It opens in theaters on June 3, 2011.

Edgar Wright Meets with Marvel & Resumes Work Re-Writing ANT-MAN Script

Director Edgar Wright (Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World) recently had a dinner meeting with Marvel Studios' President of Production Kevin Feige to discuss developing a script for the Ant-Man film.

Wright has written a draft for Ant-Man and been attached to the project since 2008, but his film Scott Pilgrim tied the director up for quite some time. It appears he's ready to pursue another project though and Ant-Man is near the top of that list. He did say, however, that he also has an idea for another film with actor Simon Pegg. Wright and Pegg have collaborated with each other numerous times in the past in comedic films such as Shaun of The Dead and Hot Fuzz.

The British director commented briefly on Ant-Man, a film which he is currently touching up with writer Joe Cornish (The Adventures of Tintin).

"This one's not about about the urgency of summer tentpoles and things going into production without a script. It's slightly different than that."
The movie, which is based on the Marvel comic character, has yet to garner a production date; nor has word come in whether it will tie into the other films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe such as Iron Man and The Avengers. The first Ant-Man is scientist Hank Pym who, in various incarnations of the comic, could shrink down to the size of an insect to solve crimes with a female companion named The Wasp (his wife); later on he become a giant-sized hero and goes by the obvious name Giant-Man.

Wright has said previously that he had an idea for the Ant-Man film that would focus on another incarnation of the comics character, Scott Lang. In this film, which the director described as a spy-thriller of sorts, the "hero" would acquire Ant-Man's technology and use it for clandestine missions.

Picture of Chris Evans in his Captain American Costume

This week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly shows Chris Evans in the full Captain America Costume. I for one do not like the way Evan's looks in the costume. I think it's the helmet, it just doesn't look good, actually kinda reminds me of a penis. Also, if he is suppose to be the World War II Era Captain America, then the Shield is all wrong!!!! It was not ROUND!!!!!!! I did not have high expectations for this movie to begin with and after seeing this picture, my expectations just got lower.

Battle: Los Angeles Trailer

For years, there have been documented cases of UFO sightings around the world — Buenos Aires, Seoul, France, Germany, China. But in 2011, what were once just sightings will become a terrifying reality when Earth is attacked by unknown forces. As people everywhere watch the world’s great cities fall, Los Angeles becomes the last stand for mankind in a battle no one expected. It’s up to a Marine staff sergeant and his new platoon to draw a line in the sand as they take on an enemy unlike any they’ve ever encountered before.

A new image circulating around the internet, which appears to be the same style of the first concept pieces from the film, may reveal the first look at the disfigured former Nazi portrayed by Hugo Weaving.

Confirmed: Lena Headey Will Star as the Villain in the DREDD Remake

The rumor which circulated yeterday has now been confirmed, placing the actress in a lead role opposite Karl Urban for the sci-fi, comic book adaptation.

The Playlist have just confirmed with reps for the actress, most notably remembered for her performances in Zack Snyder's 300 and the TV series The Sarah Connor Chronicles, that the British star will play the principle antagonist, Ma-Ma in the project. The antagonist Headey will portray is called Madeline Madrigal, aka Ma-Ma. Here's a brief description of her role in the film, courtesy of Bleeding Cool:

In the Dredd script she’s described as a woman in her late fifties or early sixties with a big scar through her cheek and lip. I can imagine they’ll just ignore the first part of that description, and the only make up Ms. Headey will be subject to will provide the scar tissue but not age her.

Ma-Ma is the leader of a gang who over run the Peach Tree City Block. Almost all of the film takes place here, an extended action sequence not too dissimilar, I guess, to the Die Hard paradigm.

DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot - if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Pete Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's revered comic strip.

GHOSTBUSTERS III is Now in Bill Murray's Hands

Director Ivan Reitman and Sony Pictures have revealed that they've sent the Ghostbusters III script to actor Bill Murray and are currently waiting on his approval; if he gives the greenlight, production will begin right away but if he says 'no', the film will once again drift into development hell.

The script was penned by writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky (The Office), with Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis and Ivan Reitman doing touch-ups along the way. Aykroyd and Reitman have revealed that the entire project depends on Murray's involvement and that he has seen various incarnations of a potential Ghostbusters III script in the past and wasn't excited by any of them.

Ghostbusters III is scheduled to hit theaters in 2012 (if Murray says he's in).

THE WALKING DEAD Season Two to Return in July

Accoring to Bryan Cranston, star of AMC's Breaking Bad, the second season of The Walking Dead will return this July along side his show. Here is what he told New York Magazine:
"It was a decision from AMC that they wanted to position us in July... They want to attract as many eyeballs as possible, away from the heavy competition of the September, November [or] January start."

"I believe they're going to put Walking Dead in July as well,"
I hope this is true, because even though July is several months away, October is even further away.

Possible Reveal Of ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Plot & Characters

Script Flags has found a leaked draft on the upcoming Dark Knight Rises film. Sure, there may have been previous leaks before but this seems more authentic and if this was a fake one, then apparently it’s a really good fake according to Script Flags.

Here’s some of the info that came from said leaked script:
  • The assassin Deadshot is broken out of prison and brought to Gotham City

  • Crime is way down in Gotham, and Batman has become more of a myth than anything else

  • Batman has a Batwing-like aircraft called “The Wraith”, a rebuilt Wayne Manor and Batcave, and an EMP-equipped Batmobile

  • Wayne Enterprises is struggling with competition (and a lawsuit) from Daggett Industries, and Lucius Fox feels he must turn against the irresponsible Bruce Wayne
  • The villainous Black Mask has hired Deadshot and is working with Roland Daggett, although it’s unclear who he’s been hired to kill (probably either Batman or Bruce Wayne, of course)

  • Edward Nashton has the Riddler’s name but Hugo Strange’s character, as he has figured out Batman’s identity and uses this to mess with the Dark Knight’s head

  • Commissioner Gordon and a Detective Adams are heading up a taskforce to catch Batman

  • Talia al Ghul makes a brief appearance

Now remember, this still could be fake, it was found on the internet afterall.

War Machine Gets A New Look For Iron Man 2.0

IRON MAN 2.0 #1
Written by NICK SPENCER
Penciled by BARRY KITSON
Cover by SALVADOR LARROCA

Spinning directly out of INVINCIBLE IRON MAN! New mission! New armor! New Iron Man! Lt. Col. James Rhodes is War Machine…the single most advanced one-man weapon of conventional combat. But wars aren’t fought
the way they used to be – and when Rhodey has to face a
mysterious enemy he can’t shoot, can’t bomb, can’t even see, he’s going to be forced to evolve…or die. Find out why War Machine becomes Iron Man 2.0 in the 3-part launch arc
of this all-new ongoing series! By breakout sensation Nick Spencer (Morning Glories, Action Comics) and the legendary Barry Kitson (INCREDIBLE HULKS, THE ORDER)!

When asked about the War Machine's new look/armor, Alejandro Arbona editor of Iron Man 2.0 had this to say:
“Rhodey’s new armor, an upgrade to become Iron Man 2.0, emphasizes stealth, recon, infiltration, and combat readiness when boots hit the ground. The War Machine of tomorrow is lighter, leaner, and more adaptable, with the ability to bulk up and fortify for direct confrontations favoring strength over slyness. And it packs quite a few surprises when things get really hairy.”

New TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON Characters Revealed

Three new characters were announced in the form of toys for Transformers: Dark of the Moon. "The Dreads" are a trio of black SUVs who, when they transform, have dreads. They are Chevrolet Suburbans which are part of the MechTech crew. They have giant pinchers and a giant gun.

Great, more stereo type robots. Um didn't Michael Bay learn anything from the twins in Transformers 2?
